It’s approaching party season and that means one thing! Time to shine up top. Here’s our top tips for creating the various ‘in’ looks for this season.

1. Colour

A great way to update your look from Spring/Summer to Autumn/Winter is with a change of colour. For blondes, think Sarah Harding and go for block panels of colour, in icy cool tones to add depth rather than highlights. If you are a fiery redhead, go for a rich, warm shades, think violet or plum and stay away from copper and ginger tones. For brunettes, stay dark for Autumn/Winter 09, cooler shades will be hot next season, so think dark bitter chocolate rather than the softer milk chocolate hues.

2. Cut

Barbarella Meets Chrissie Hynde – its rock chick and attitude all the way. Think fringe, fringe, fringe this winter! From the 80’s to the noughties, move away from the sweeping longer versions and be bold with a heavier block style – rounder and thicker than in the summer months. Gossip Girls, Taylor Momsen is already rocking this look so it’s sure to be hot! Adding a fringe can completely update your look and suits both long and short styles.

3. Styling

When it comes to styling and shape, remember volume, volume and more volume… The best way to achieve volume is by using the right products and tools. Use a large round hairbrush and Try Tigi Bed Head Superstar – Queen for a Day. Spray onto damp hair and blow dry for long lasting body and volume. Or Matrix Amplify Root Lifter spray.

4. Texture

Texture is also going to be big for Autumn/Winter. For big sexy curls, think heated or Velcro rollers. For a tighter curl bring out your curling irons or wands. Whether your hair is long or short, tousle with your fingers or brush through your curls to create soft feminine waves, bounce and body. Think Coco before Chanel glamour.

5. Top of the crops

The pixie elfin look is going to be grown out with softer lines and texture for Autumn/Winter, think elegant and sophisticated – Posh Spice meets Audrey Tatou in Coco before Chanel.
